echo indigo.. probly not the greatest d/a's (a/ds dont count, i never record anything live)
and yeah true true, mp3 and cd.. wax if im ever lucky.. i still figure that recording at the best quality you can afford is gonna be worth it.. even if it is just a notch above the norm
Here it is in the briefest possible way:
There's no point doing anything at a higher sample rate than your destination media. A CD is 16-bit, 44.1kHz (as are most mp3's). Extra bit depth (the vertical axis of your waveform) can to some extent be preserved - if you make stuff at 24-bit and use dither correctly at the very end before going to CD, you can get an apparent bit depth of summink like 19-20 bits on a 16-bit CD. Crafty. There is no analgous process for sample rate (x-axis) conversions. If you are going to CD and do everything at 88.2kHz, when it comes to downsampling to 44.1kHz for the CD, essentially all you do is throw every other sample away, end of story (albeit with an ultra sharp anti aliasing low pass filter, but don't worry about that for now). So when you do things at 48kHz that are ending up as 44.1 CD/MP3 files etc, those extra 39000 samples per second are just going to get slung in the bin. Besides which, if you can hear stuff between 22.05kHz and 24kHz then you can come and mix my tunes for me BTW, the DA's on the Indigo ain't that bad at all For what it is, and the price, the quality is excellent. I ain't trying to lecture you or whatever man, do what you like - but if space saving is an issue then you can save even more with no noticeable in the quality of your final result by working at 44.1 And your samples will play at the right pitch too Don Cherry Wrote:Every human is blessed in her or his life with one love (passion), no matter how long it may last. yup yup, im not as daft as i sound :P
Ive just always recorded @ 48k and probly should go down to 44.1. and no... i cant hear much over 18k i bet... the top end of my hearing is fscked ..just checkout my mix downs.. the top end is always bumped right up to where i think it sounds shiney, just deafens everybody else when played out loud
Just trying to help, I don't mean to patronise... I dunno what you know and what you don't

I've met the bloke and had a drink and a chat with him, and he's on the ball. But the last thing you want to do after sitting programming music software all day is..... sit and program music software Last I heard he was working on another concept - pooossssssibly, just posssssibly, the result of our geeky chat.... If it is then Don Cherry Wrote:Every human is blessed in her or his life with one love (passion), no matter how long it may last. This Absolute love will last in one's heart and soul forever. Well we discussed multiband transient detection... ie not JUST level or rate of level change dependent, so possibly.
It would be niiiice Don Cherry Wrote:Every human is blessed in her or his life with one love (passion), no matter how long it may last. This Absolute love will last in one's heart and soul forever.
