Nothing to do with the couple IMO, it's just bad taste. Assuming that your 'private joke' with fellow forum members, who get your sense of humour will remain so is a bit naive. As shown by the image links above.

George Carlin is very funny but I'm not sure that the death of a 3 year old should ever be the subject of a joke regardless of who caused it.

This backlash of popular opinion on the McCanns is inevitable considering how they have manipulated the media etc. in the past weeks. If it turns out they did do it they will be the most hated people in Britain. No one likes being tricked.

I was just making a point.. people joke about death all the time man, I saw jokes flying around about Stephen lawrence and antony walker but I didn't get my ack up as that's just human nature I think.... What about Steve Irwin??.. I remember plenty of jokes being put on here about him and no one batted a eyelid...

i guess the whole thing about this is that it is quite intriguing...it's a "true crime" episode unfolding in real-time

which means that people tend to focus on the drama of it all, rather than the horrible facts that

a) a small child has vanished
b) it's likely she is dead
c) some pervert / maniac swipped her or her parents killed her

the former is of course easier for people to fathom, as the notion that two "pillars of the community" for whom most of the world had untold sympathy for, could kill either intentionally or accidentally their own child and then con the world about it so enraging and in my opinion reflective of the world we live in that it doesn't bare thinking about for the majority of people involved in speculation about the whole matter.

If people focused on the realities of the situation rather than the speculation and accusation it might serve us all the better...

Nah... a grown man who made his career annoying dangerous animals being speared by a stingray just IS funnier than a 3 year old girl being abducted and/or murdered. At least it had a touch of irony.

I'm not saying you shouldn't make jokes at all but there's something about photoshoppery that makes it that bit more uncomfortable for me. It's a personal judgement I suppose.

I think almost anything has the potential to be funny, but there are boundaries and they are personal ones. A dead child and grieving parent is more upsetting to me than a dead parent and grieving child... since most of us can expect the latter but no one wants to contemplate the former.
