Mother Teresa died the same week... now THAT was a good woman
Mother Teresa killed Maddie. There I said it.
(btw. I was being ironic about lady Di)

i had a few tears at max roach's passing. you do personally care about things like that, having listened to them so much.

hmm... can't see myself doing that. but then i've always been a bit cold hearted about music.

just a complete circus.
the things that struck me most from the beggining were:
like Chris mentioned, what the hell you doing leaving your kids unattended...
also just couldn't believe the extent of the media courting...I mean, yeh, you'd do anything to find your kid if they went missing, but kids go missing and many families don't have that option monetary wise...donate money to missing persons charities, but an audience with the Pope, FFS! What was that ever gonna achieve, divine intervention? just seemed like so much spin. maybe I'm too cynical...

Well they are quite religious, so maybe that is what they were hoping for.

They might need it, the way things are going.

those sort of antics are all a bit much for me too, as mentioned the diana thing was similar...how can you have such an emotional investment in someone you never met??
this whole thing, much like the diana case, is an example of one of those things that joe public can jump all over and get worked up about, maybe it satisfies a basic need to "care" about something other than one's self??
the media is more than happy to feed that need...nothing sells more than something like this...i'd imagine the papers are raking in the money because of this.
malevolent_wavelength Wrote:but an audience with the Pope, FFS! What was that ever gonna achieve, divine intervention?
I dunno, at the very least i'd be looking for a rub of the papal balls.
beckett Wrote:those sort of antics are all a bit much for me too, as mentioned the diana thing was similar...how can you have such an emotional investment in someone you never met??
hmmm... i am not sure i totally agree here.... with the music thing, i have been 'personally touched' (cringe-worthy phrase) by, say, max roach and his music. princess di, however, did a lot (?) to help people, but the ones who still fucking bang on about her probably had no connection even of that tenuous sort. and yet they do still bang on as if she popped round to console them when tibbles died or whatever.
so it is a little different - not just a matter of having physically met them or not.

spot on.

you've GOT to be kidding man!!!
oh come on!!! compared to lady di surely she's done more good, what ever you think of organised religion... (i'm a recovering catholic myself)
but you've done your research (sort of) lol!!!
yeah there are so many kids that go missing every day, i have to admit the meeting with the pope was a bit fucking much... it's clearly becasue they have dough....

Sorry man. Comments criticising my 'research' from your good self? thats just
Ive read the Hitchens book. It makes a lot of good points. The criticism of Teresa has less to do with organised religion and more to do with fraud, embezellment and mistreatment of the sick and disabled. Those links are just all I could find online.
Read up on it - the conditions in many of the centres she ran are utterly appalling.
Compared to Lady Di? im not making that comparison, just taking issue with MT being unreservedly described as a 'Good Woman'.

like when princess di died... lol!! that was some scary shit man....
I went bowling on the day of her funeral.. It was weird walking through town and the streets were empy, and it was a saturday. I thought it was tragic but blown out of all proportion to sell papers and suck people back in to the very media machine which was partly responsible for her death..
As for the Mccanns, who knows at the moment? It's all far too vague, they were stupid to leave there own kid alone with a window open in a ground floor hotel. Whether they killed her though is questionable. They're too caugh up in the ebb and flow or media opinions lashing back and forth for anyone outside of the police to be sure. If she was dead surely someone would have remembered something and if the parents did it surely they'd have to dispose of the body locally? in which case the body would have been found by now?
avoid bullshit tv like sky and bullshit papers like the red tops. you too can live in a diana/maddie-free world!
as for the jokes, it's primarily a matter of personal taste. personally, i think joking about any tragedy is always in bad taste.

Agreed. I'm glad I have no idea what's going on with this to be frank

unfortunately not in the uk
any broadcast news has stuff about it
and there are always trailers for new tv programmes about how diana arranged her socks
