Statto Wrote:two methods: never heard of chessbase before but will check that out. would you recommend it for beginners? i have a chess computer (karpov - by millenium) and i play now for about six months. about the gender thing: i looked some of the books up but i think they`re not available in english. some years ago it was really popular around students in my city so i went to a lot of reading groups. lament Wrote:never heard of chessbase before but will check that out. would you recommend it for beginners? Not really. It's just a database operating system that allows you look at chess games – and chessbase provide millions of games – but beginners certainly don't need to do that kind of work. lament Wrote:i have a chess computer (karpov - by millenium) and i play now for about six months. ok I have chess playing engines on my computer, but they're very strong indeed (grandmaster standard) so I never play them because I always lose lament Wrote:about the gender thing: right

Enthusiastically cooking. I've been into cooking for years - I'd rather make dinner than make music. We've been going through a bit of an Asian phase over the last couple of weeks, lots of Vietnamese and Malaysian flavours going on.
I used to be quite enthusiastic about chess Statto. We're talking 20+ years ago when I was at school. I joined up a chess club and played a few small tournaments and was even ranked (only about 800 and something but I was 11!) I would like to get my head back into it to be honest. The last person I really played against was an ex girlfriend about 8 years ago, I taught her how to play and within a month she was beating me 90% of the time. Most of you will know by now I'm fairly enthusiastic about my chillies, both growing, cooking with and eating. My first flower buds are showing for this year! I'll have some flowers by mid next week I reckon and on a variety I haven't grown before so I'm chuffed about that. Might need to repot it before it flowers to get the most fruit possible from it.
Hoggies are back. Last couple of weeks the little blighters are snuffling around again. Great to see the wee gits nom nom nomming in the garden the food we put out for them (proper hoggy food).
Hoggies are awesome, so awesome I mention them here... http://www.axiomfiles.com/Files/7284/Ze-Recruits2.jpg ... since the resizing here is, well, shit

I'm also interested in the local history of where I grew up. Stories, pictures, newspaper clippings, folklore etc.
I find it all really fascinating. I also read a lot about alleged paranormal happenings due to some of my own personal experiences. Where I live now is on the edge of a country park that is steeped in a lot of history, ghostly tales and folklore. and there are of course lots of trees for me to hug

Speaking of which, this is possibly the shittest local newspaper article I ever found from 1910
Sandiacre Milk Seller Fined. Ernest Dawson, milk seller, Sandiacre, was summoned for selling adulterated milk at Sandiacre on June 9th. Mr G Bailey prosecuted on behalf of the County Council and the defendant, who was represented by Mr F Searby of Alfreton, pleaded not guilty. The defendant did not keep cows but obtained milk from a farmer. Wm Etchells, inspector under the Food and Drugs Act, said he purchased a pint of milk from the defendant and divided it in the usual way, sending one portion to the County Analyst. Mr White, the County Analyst, said the portion of milk submitted to him for analysis was deficient of 10 per cent of fat. The defendant said he had his milk from Mr Noel Hooley of Golden Brook Farm, Sandiacre (sic). He sold it as it was received from the farm. Noel Hooley said the milk would be depreciated by a thunderstorm which affected the constitution of the cows. George Short, foreman and cowman for the last witness, also said the quantity of milk would be affected by a thunderstorm. The Bench imposed a fine of £1 and £2.1s.6d. costs How times have changed! ha ha

Not too much cos we've been away. We saw a solo thing from the guy from Dead Rat Orchestra that was very good - harmonium drones, a dissected carriage clock and an old acetate recording of his grandfather. And we went to a Mordant Music thing with Echoplex and Vindicatrix. Echoplex was doing an all-analogue no computer based live set which was technically interesting but pretty dry musically, while Vindicatrix looked like he was going to do an insufferably mawkish electronics plus whinging vocals plus inept percussion thing, but then turned out to have a really good voice and quite good snare drum chops.
